Home » Interview Questions » Do you expect experienced team members to wait until the completion of the next stand-up to ask for help in resolving barriers?

Agile emphasizes the scrum team’s constant engagement and communication. Team members should not wait until the next daily scrum to ask for assistance; doing so will cause delays in the process, affecting the overall sprint goal. If there is a stumbling block, it should be removed right away. The team commits the sprint items according to their capability during sprint planning.

For instance, I have 50 hours of committed work but have become stopped owing to a roadblock. Now, if I wait until the following day or the next daily scrum to talk about it, I’m losing workable hours that could have been resolved by raising it right now. The question also expressly mentions “experienced team members,” implying that if the experienced members succumb to waiting, it sends the wrong impression to the rest of the team. Such team conduct can also indicate latent tensions or a reluctance to speak up.

The Scrum Master should assist the team in recognizing the value of real-time conversations and encourage healthy communication among the scrum team members. Even the Scrum Master can devise some team-building exercises to help the team collaborate more effectively.
